Have you all been bombarded with emails announcing SALE! SALE! SALE!? Now that the 4th of July has come and gone, stores are clearing out their Spring/Summer pieces to get ready for Fall (we know, there are still several months of warm weather, but in the next few weeks the first shipment of Fall merchandise will hit the floors!) Taking advantage of these super summer sales can be overwhelming, to say the least. I clicked on Shopbop’s sale page and saw 8000+ items (!!!!!). That makes even us cringe and close the page.
So, how does one go about shopping these sales? What are the best pieces to buy that will take your wardrobe into Fall, and how does one get around making impulse buys just because it’s a good “deal”? Our first piece of advice is to shop by BRAND. Find a brand that you know fits you well, look at the product details for specifics on the piece, and read the reviews (often retailers will only sell super marked down items for final sale – no returns). Our second piece of advice is to shop by CATEGORY – do you know you have a fall or winter wedding coming up and need a dress? Or did you love a style of shirt last year that you want to replace for this year? Our third piece of advice is to shop by SIZE – no use sifting through pages and pages of items only to find they’re sold out in your size. Thankfully most retailers websites have filter buttons that can do this work for you! Remember: all of these sales are great deals, so don’t buy something just because it’s 70% off and a great price. Do you love it? Can you think of at least 2-3 pieces in your wardrobe to wear it with? Those are questions you should ask yourself before you buy. But, many sizes will sell out quickly, so be prepared to buy something if you love it, because it might not be there the next day!

Denim
Look for brands you know you like and that you know fit you. Try out a style you don’t already have (boyfriend? destroy?), or add another classic pair of skinnies to your closet!

We know it’s hard to think about jackets in 80+ degree weather, but it’s an item that makes such an impact on your outfit in fall/winter, and can allow you to wear many of your summer tops and dresses year round! So don’t be afraid of an investment here (and even better when they’re on sale!)
