Dedicated Post: Maternity Fashion Must-Haves

maternity must-haves
It’s a long 9 months…and while it is an amazing and exciting time, giving up your body is hard thing to do!  You shouldn’t have to sacrifice your sense of style and fashionability too!  I know all too well…I’ve been living it for the past 38 weeks.
Here are my maternity staples that I’ve gotten tons of mileage out of:
1. Boyfriend Tees – the oversized fit gives you longevity and isn’t too clingy. It’s drapey in the right places and perfect for a little mini half-tuck to contour the belly.
2. Slouchy Pants – never was the timing of a trend so perfect!  Maternity not-needed…the natural slouch, easy fit, and elastic waistband make these perfect for under the belly, comfortable wear.  You can find them easily at every price point, in dressy or casual fabrics.  They have been my go-to piece!
3. Layering Tanks – wear them under your regular blousey tops to give them more length and longer life.  Wear them paired together or on their own with slouchy pants or maxi skirts.  The same fashion rules apply – if you you’re wearing a bottom with volume, keep it tight on the top and show off that belly!
4. Denim or Moto Jacket – again, go for a non-maternity, slimmer fitting option.  Gives the illusion of shape and brings in those flowy tops to help slim your silhouette.  It doesn’t have to close or button so you can go with your normal size as long as it fits in the shoulders!
5. Statement Necklace – when all else fails attract attention upward with a fun statement necklace!  It can dress up any plain tee or tank and create an outfit out of your most basic pieces.
6. Guazy Scarves – another go-to accessory for me – it helps balance your growing upper half and draws the eye upward!  Looks great with a basic layering tank or cotton dress even in summer.
7. Leggings – when wearing all of those baggy/blousy tops with volume, keep it slim on the bottom.  I’ve lived in these and the Gap Maternity pair were my most favorite!  A skinny, under-the-belly waistband and super soft fabric…they were super comfy and a great staple.
8. Statement Shoe – again, complete the look and attract attention to the areas you can!  A fun statement shoe can make an outfit.
9. Popovers/Button downs – love these because you can size up for the “boyfriend” look.  Rollup the sleeves, and do a mini-half tuck (if you leave untucked it just makes you look bigger, so half tuck to give yourself shape!).  What I love most about this is the life even after baby is born.  Perfect for easy feeding access!
10. Maxi Skirt – the gathered knit waist band makes non-maternity options work.  They just scrunch under the belly.  Looks great with metallic sandals, a simple tank and a patterned scarf or necklace.
11. Metallic Sandals – a wardrobe staple for any girl!  Pregnant or not.
